To give you some idea of how things operate in South Africa, it is not uncommon for a Zulu man to have more than one wife and for him to have multiple children with each wife. Families of say 15 people are common. 1 man, 2 wives and 6 kids per wife. The same people will complain about being poor and oppressed. Granted not all families are that large, but many are well over the replacement rate. As it turns out they are well outside anything resembling affordability as well. The state encourages black folks to have large families since they will give them $20 per child per month on social grants. The president said that this was one of his parties "biggest accomplishments". Basically bloating the population via incentives that create starving masses.
@MrFoofoo The Khoisan were the first people in Southern Africa. By a large margin. Specifically they were a combination of the Khoi people and the San Bushmen people. Much later the Bantu people came down from central africa and slaughtered many of the locals that they encountered in the region. The soon after they established themselves the Dutch established a settlement in the Cape. The people who rule SA now are from Bantu descent. By sheer numbers, corruption and force. Bantu people went from approx 1m when the Dutch arrived to approx 55m today. No other tribe or group can match that. The Khoisan number even less than white people, and like white people are an oppressed minority in the country.
white people, stop supporting colonialism. We Indians were not scavengers when you guys came to our land we have a civilazation with its own great and some issues, but you guys wiped out everything, and karma will get back to you.
also, why assume colonialism is a bad thing. short term pain leads to long term gain in the form of eventually getting profoundly better health, longevity, quality of life, governance, justice... i mean, pre colonial civilizations were mostly stone aged societies based on leadership from those who were best able to beat you to death. not much in the way of medicine and public education there.
@Hasteel something or place where people are or were already have existing inhabitants cannot be found or created or discovered. The Khoi and other indigenous tribes were already living in areas of South Africa. World history on South Africa needs a serious upgrade or a re-look.
@Hatsteel that big fat lie was created by your Dutch ancestors to devide Africans, before the settlers arrived here Africa was one big continent without any boundaries and countries. Our history did not start when those Dutch thugs landed here there’s a lot that was happening all over Africa so your made up history doesn’t count to us.
@Hatsteel The dutch were here looong before the English, but no, the Khoisan and other indigenous peoples were here first, not the dutch or Anglos.
As a South African, this movie hits home on so many levels. Very well directed with a wonderful cast.
I think this movie is rated much too low. I give it a 7. It's different then your typical Hollywood predictable, stereotype movie. I like the way it explored the racial tension of South African society. The story feels real. There is no define good and bad people. Just victims of a world full of hatred, bigotry and human flaws. This movie is a voice for the victims of an imperfect world seeking redemption.

BTW the red car is a 1975 Datsun GX Coupe. Note the single side rear view mirror on the drivers side. There was no side view mirror on the passenger side with that model.
