Plot summary

Set in the Ozark Mountains during the Great Depression, Billy Coleman works hard and saves his earnings for 2 years to achieve his dream of buying two coonhound pups. He develops a new trust in God as he faces overwhelming challenges in adventure and tragedy roaming the river bottoms of Cherokee country with "Old Dan" and "Little Ann."

Another movie where dogs DIE! No this is

Another movie where dogs DIE! No this is not a story, it panders to soap opera feelings at the expense of hunting dogs. Any real Coon hunter carries a firearm to dispatch the Coon. I hunt upland birds with birdshot and have buckshot as backup for wild board and wildcats. This movie is nonsense.

It is a wonderful book and should be

It is a wonderful book and should be required reading in school. The 2004 movie followed the book better than the 1st movie. The actors did a great job. I grew up coon hunting and hunting with dogs, so I know the bond between a boy and his hounds.
