Movie was alright, but do yourself a favor read the book. The fighting with the relief battalion was FAR more brutal. They had to HIKE in, and had barely any air support or fire support. This movie makes it seem like the US won right there but nope.

Great movie

I have a DVD and HD DVD copy of movie. We Were Soldiers is the best Vietnam war movie of all time because Lt. Col. Harold Moore lead the first major battle in Ia Drang Valley of death by killing 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers surrounding on their perimeter and this is my most favorite movie of all time as well.

One of my great uncles was portrayed in this movie, but even so, I found it lackluster. Maybe because it was shortly after 9/11 and the abundant patriotism of fellow Americans had given me a headache by then, but it didn't seem to have the grit, intrigue, balls, whatever, of an Apocalypse now or Full Metal Jacket or Saving Private Ryan. Despite having a bunch of actors I like, I remember just wishing it would be over. The cinematography or something made it feel like a made-for-TV movie.

I agree with the 3 rating for the "terrible acting" mostly by Lt Col Gibson.

The movie was good but could have and would have without Lt. Col. Mel Gibson.
