A modern horror story enough to chill the blood of anyone approaching old age alone, with no family or nearby friends. There are two overlapping stories: a mute wheelchair bound old man, Victor, lives in a cluttered squalid bungalow with only two carers to see to his needs. The carers are underpaid, with little training, and to them, he is just another annoyance to put up with until they get their meagre pay. They talk over Victor as if he isn't there "is he breathing?" "do we need to change his clothes? "No we did that yesterday, he can go another couple of days." One of the carers steal Victor's watch, which ultimately leads us to the shocking climax as we find that Victor isn't mute, he chooses not to speak, as he is in hiding from a shocking past, and we find out why he has no family or friends. A resentful youth who has lived in foster care breaks into Victor's home to hide out from a crime, and their clash reveals a tragic similarity - does the youth own up to his crimes, or like Victor, spend his life in hiding?

Underwhelming

I was very keen to see this slice of "Orpington Noir" , following its positive reviews on here and other media but , despite nicely claustrophobic photography & fine performances by Timothy West and , particularly , Amanda Abbington as a detestable care worker, I found the script disjointed and distinctly overwrought - given its allegedly realistic format. The time frame and age of Timothy West's character was also a fair way away from being remotely plausible. A shame but I have to say that I found it underwhelming and disappointing for me and certainly not something I would want to see again or recommend to anyone, sadly.
