Plot summary

Readers across the world are in love with author Sally Carmichael's series of romance novels that chronicle the epic love story between a human girl and a merman. But no one knows that Sally Carmichael is really Simon Hayes, a bitter, serious novelist - and Simon would like to keep it that way. When he is forced to meet a movie star about the movie adaptation, his life of anonymity starts to crumble.

When I saw the previews for this it

When I saw the previews for this it looked hilarious and I thought "Finally, an enjoyable movie!" Unfortunately this movie fell completely flat. It started out okay, but wow, it dragged and just got worse and worse. I recognized one of the agents as a minor character from "The Middle". He played Frankie's boss when she worked as a dental hygienist and he was obnoxious on that show. That obnoxious-ness definitely carries over to this movie. The storyline is interesting but since when does an author's true identity warrant a major news story? It's nothing new that authors write under pseudonyms, and it's really overblown here. I didn't like any of the actors or actresses or the characters, except maybe the little girl and her role wasn't really defined until later. I hated the way the publishers were so obnoxious and mean and they seemed to get joy out of threatening to sue Sally. Once was fine, but it went on and on and on... I really should have turned it off at that point, but I was anxious to see what was going to happen. As a writer, I was just hoping to see something really fun and enjoyable but this movie is none of those things. It's just stupid and the end made me shake my head and roll my eyes. I think I even said "Oh my God, really?" out loud while watching it. Just bad all the way around. The only thing I enjoyed was seeing the bookstore-and that was only for about ten seconds.
