Plot summary

Spend time on both sides of World War I, partly with German flying ace Baron Manfred Von Richthofen (John Phillip Law), aka "The Red Baron," and his colorful "flying circus" of Fokker fighter planes, during the time from his arrival at the war front to his death in combat. On the other side is Roy Brown of the Royal Air Force, sometimes credited with shooting Richthofen down.

56% ?? Are you kidding me ?? This is without a doubt one of the finest World War I movies ever made, next only to The Blue Max with George Peppard. The uniforms, the set pieces, the planes and the action are amazing. The storyline is straightforward and simple and a lot of the scenarios that happened in reality are accurately portrayed here. An absolute classic - horribly underrated and hopefully someday it will see the recognition and praise that it so richly deserves in cinema.

Infamous for his apparent love of working with

Infamous for his apparent love of working with small budgets, director Roger Corman does wonders with the budgetary scraps thrown his way with Von Richthofen and Brown. Set during WW1, it’s the story of Baron von Richthofen, the ace German pilot known for his tri-wing plane, sacrificing speed for maneuverability in tight quarters dogfights, and Canadian pilot Roy Brown, who battled von Richthofen in his final engagement. While the ground action is a bit dull and doesn’t seem to give much insight into either character, the aerial scenes are often spectacular (especially considering the budget), but do tend to get repetitive midway through the movie. Despite ultimately falling a little flat, it’s a fairly decent effort from the frugal Corman in what turned out the be his penultimate directing effort.
