If you claim to love domesticated animals you want to stop being eaten, keep in mind as they're domesticated they can no longer care for themselves and most of them (cows, chickens) would go extinct if put back into the wild. It's the same thing with trees. Without the demand for them no one would breed them. Keep in mind also cats and dogs are carnivores, a lot of them eat their owners when they die as well, it's just nature. And I have to wonder why these bleeding hearts never seem to have a word to say about halal cooking methods where animals are kept alive to bleed to death making it more torturous, or dogs in China literally tossed into boiling oil alive.
