Plot summary

An essayist, he finds peace in his mountain life. His routine is pleasantly disturbed by occasional visits from Machiko, his editor and love interest, as he struggles to let go of his late wife's ashes.

Wonderful to watch. Beautiful cinematography follows the waning years of a Japanese man . A meditation on isolation, ritual, and simple gastronomy. A very slow paced but engaging film…perhaps a bit too long but fascinating to watch.

The other main character of the movie - nature

Humans are truly incredible creatures, enjoying the flavor in their mouths while turning over inexplicable past events and chewing on them along with their memories. Since what goes into the mouth comes from the earth, the mind turns over past experiences, and the ties of the land mellow the palate.Life's impermanence is part of life's daily routine. Humming your favorite song, cooking your favorite food, letting go of your obsessions, and loosening the bonds to yourself is the only way to live comfortably and live freely.It's hard to say whether the movie's positive or negative. Farewell is the ultimate theme of life, before saying goodbye to get rid of concerns, to go forward with a lighter load is powerlessness, is courage, is also a blessing.
