Plot summary

Christmas 1999, in a peaceful little village in the Ardennes. The life of a young boy named Antoine will soon be devastated by three tragic events : the death of a dog, the vanishing of a child, and a big ravaging storm.

(Mauro Lanari) Phenomenology of ubiquitous and unredeemed destructiveness: finally not a whodunit but a film that, with equally violent cuts, ellipses and editing while leaving off-screen almost every bloody element, progressively extends the co-responsibility from the adolescent anthropic sphere to the adult one and to the natural one of the perfect storm. "It's cruel, don't you think?" "We abandoned the search. Our main problem was to... survive." "I'm not judging you. So don't judge me either. In this story [Story?], everyone copes in their own way." A devastating brutal force.

Just before a major storm hits, a young

Just before a major storm hits, a young boy vanishes from a town. His friend hides a secret that will haunt him to adulthood. An interpersonal drama and character study that covers two ages of the main character. The first hour he's around 12 and the second he's 27. The majority of each period is around Christmas. I found the first hour more intriguing than the second and thought the twists at the end could've been foreshadowed better. Still, I found it an enjoyable view if you don't mind dark films. The storm is Cyclone Lothar, now considered the worst European windstorm of the 20th Century.
