Varney was a longtime chain smoker. During the filming of Treehouse Hostage in August 1998, Varney developed a nagging cough, which he initially believed to be caused by a cold. However, as his condition worsened, Varney sought medical treatment and was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died in 2000 at 50 years of age - Wiki Source.

I love Jim Varney, grew up with him, was a member of his club when I was a kid. 15% of smokers get cancer vs 38.9% of Americans who get cancer anyway. More than half as good a chance to "just" get cancer. I'll keep smoking at 46 years of doing so, my chances are better. ??
