Plot summary

A drama centred on three people: Sarah is a barista who finds the love of her life in Mark. Her mother Barbara depends on Mark to keep her in Sarah's life while resenting her daughter's deep love for him. When severely traumatised by the sudden death of Mark Sarah's relationship with her mother finally cracks. Now faced with losing her struggle to cope Sarah feels Mark's presence return. Based on true events Transition is the story of a love that transcends this realm and the strength of human character in survival.

While this film did have a unique atmosphere

While this film did have a unique atmosphere of civilizational collapse encroaching on desperate refugees in the south of France, good acting, and a plot that managed it’s twists appropriately, the tactic of setting a WWII era story in the seeming present didn’t really do the film any favours. A nice love story with a certain amount of tension but that was about all.

This is some kind of allegory, that after watching the first twenty minutes failed to win me. The time is contemporary based on the vehicles we see. The conditions remind WW II. It is totally uncertain who are the good guys and who the bad. French, Germans or aliens from Galaxy 3Ba. In summary: not interested.

An excellent work showing humanity always trapped near

An excellent work showing humanity always trapped near the gates of Hell - the ever present possibility of a turn towards anarchy and continental scale destruction. There is a scene in the movie looking down a long external stairs to the harbour, and it is meant to suggest the descent into Hell of Dante's inferno. All the souls waiting for the ship are Dante's souls waiting for transport. A profound movie on many levels.
