A Brilliant Meta-Comedy Caper: The Trailer Park Boys Bring the Christmas Spirit to the North Pole

250221 (3.3) The way this special blends a scripted storyline with an actual live performance is nothing short of genius. It manages to feel incredibly natural while maintaining the chaotic energy of the series. The plot follows the boys as they head to Minneapolis after finding out they have a massive fan base in the U. S. Julian, ever the entrepreneur, opens a Christmas gift shop to exploit the holiday, while Ricky and Jacob end up in jail for stealing decorations. In a hilarious twist, Ricky is awarded a "Christmas Spirit Award" by mistake, which he treasures as the first prize he's ever won. To get Ricky to go to the "North Pole" (Minneapolis), Bubbles and Julian convince him that "Santa-Jesus-God" lives there. It's revealed that Bubbles and Julian have been faking Santa's gifts for years just to protect Ricky's innocent, albeit drug-fueled, childhood heart. The live show itself is masterfully constructed. Seeing Jim Lahey swagger onto the stage in front of a real audience of 2,500 fans is a highlight, especially as he reveals his "Serpico" cosplay photos of Randy and a hidden camera tape of Julian in the bathroom. The "Christmas Spirit" is explored through the lens of absolute madness-similar to the irreverent holiday specials of South Park or Rick and Morty. We see Randy transformed into "Smoky" the male prostitute to make ends meet, and Bubbles donning his wrestling persona as the "Christmas Bastard" to fight a drunken Santa Lahey. Despite Julian's blatant greed throughout the show, the finale takes a surprisingly touching turn when he gives his earnings to buy Ricky a sports car, proving that even in Sunnyvale, the holidays are about sharing. The transitions between acts, the audience participation, and the actors' improvisational skills-especially Mike Smith's-make this one of the most cohesive and entertaining live specials in the franchise. It's a wild, drunken, yet oddly heartwarming celebration of friendship and the "Christmas Spirit."

Great Mix of Live Shows and Xmas Special Vibes

Trailer Park Boys: Live at the North Pole. A great mash up of the boys Live Shows with a side story attached much like their trip to effin Dublin. 10 years after the Christmas Special (2004) they get to use their mockumentary style to make the whole trip make sense.

Classically Ricky goes to Jail because Julian is only thinking about money. But after Kev sends Bubbles a letter to go to Minneapolis the boys arrive with Ricky under the impression Minneapolis is at the North Pole thanks to Bubbles wanting to keep the Christmas Spirit. The sharper new Netflix TPB looks slick and plays homage to both the series and Christmas Special. A heart warming effort by the rejuvenated boys from Sunnyvale. The one thing you notice is Mike Smiths voice sort if break Bubbles character once in awhile. With a Trailer Park Boys version of A Christmas Carol Bubbles nails it as the Ghosts of Christmas. Longer than the standard TPB special it is a spectacular every seconds. Everyone deserves a couple drinks at Christmas. Plus cameos by Smokey and The Green Bastard.
