Plot summary

Malik, a young Parisian hustler, discovers that his stepfather Serge, a famous bank robber, has been arrested along with his accomplices. During the trial, Iris, one of the accused's lawyers, Chérif, requests Malik to accept a dangerous heist in exchange for Serge and her client's liberty. Malik must convince and reunite Chérif's former partners to accomplish this high-risk stickup.

Whilst not exactly original, Hunting with Tigers offers

Whilst not exactly original, Hunting with Tigers offers enough worthwhile content, to fit comfortably, into the French action crime thriller genre. This film delivers plenty of action with a certain vibe that's hard to define in words but feels, inherently French. Its kind of gritty, earthy but also has a certain flair and style, that's very much evident, in this film. Most notably, the courthouse shoot out, which is central to this film's story of loyalty and honour (of a kind). Characterisations follow a similar trajectory. Its hard hitting, no nonsense stuff with tough guys doing tough guy things. Its nicely balanced with a sense of comradery and jokery fellowship. On the downside there are a few conspicuous plot holes and it all feels a little preposterous but again, that could be said to be part of the fun. In summary, a solid, middle of the road, French crime action thriller. Something the French seem to excel at. Definitively worth a look.

Paper Tigers?

For me, the French HEAT is still not for now.... This movie ending is closer to PLUS BELLE LA VIE TV show atmosphere than a masterpiece such as HEAT. Once more, director Jeremy Guez deceives me after his awful KANUN, for which my expectations were so great. The harder I fell !!!! The problem is not the directing nor the cast, but the ending? Why, why giving such a lousy ending for a movie supposed to be gritty, dark, bleak, violent? Why? The series BRI also produced by Guez was nearly OK, but something was missing too.... Sorry folks, I grew up with directors such a Jean-Pierre Melville and Sam Peckinpah with whom you could never have such lousy endings...Never. For the rest, I admit that 's not a bad film, on the contrary, the hoodlums are very professional, and I love that. The action scenes quite good, fast paced. But why such a f...ending like this? Now, I wait for THE QUIET ONES, starring Reda Kated, and supposed to be released next year. I hope that for this one, I will not fall "from a cliff" too. Because after watching the trailer, my hopes, expectations, are as high as the Empire State Building. The spectacular escape from the court house of Paris is even better than in the movie LE GANG DES OTAGES, back in 1973.
