Its just about watchable. The premise is mildly interesting although at times the script does come out with pretty poor dialogue.

A melodrama of unclear intentions. Is the war still going on? Who knows. The coast guard officer, having been saved from drowning, suddenly decides to marry his long term girlfriend and then just as suddenly to commence an affair with the intriguing wife of a famous painter who is now blind. Joan Bennett and Charles Bickford command the screen. In the end noone dies, but I would not bet any significant amount that any of them will get happier. Good restored black and white cinematography with the exaggerated shadows common then. When a man and a woman kiss they keep their lips closed and bring their heads forcefully together.
