The Woman in Red (1984) is a dated

The Woman in Red (1984) is a dated 80s rom-com that leans on exaggerated situations and fantasy tropes rather than clever writing. Gene Wilder shines as the bumbling, awkward lead, bringing most of the film’s humor and charm, but without him the movie would feel flat. Kelly LeBrock’s role as the woman in red is central, yet the story exaggerates her desirability to unrealistic levels, making the romantic tension feel forced rather than organic. The screenplay is uneven, with pacing that drags in places and jokes that land inconsistently. Direction and production are competent but unremarkable, failing to elevate the story beyond its premise. While Wilder’s performance is entertaining, the film itself struggles to hold up for modern audiences. The fantasy elements feel dated, the humor occasionally falls flat, and the casting choices make it hard to buy into the story. Overall, it’s mildly amusing but far from a classic.

If we needed more proof that humor is

If we needed more proof that humor is totally subjective, this can be exhibit one. Gene Wilder spends almost 90 minutes trying to cheat on his wife-who is not exactly perfect on this subject. He comes close, but no cigar. In the process we have a partially destroyed automobile, horse riding adventures and a noisy waterbed. I thought the situations were very funny and all was done without malice. Your mileage may vary.
