Plot summary

Buzz Rickson is a dare-devil World War II bomber pilot with a death wish. Failing at everything not involving flying, Rickson lives for the most dangerous missions. His crew lives with this aspect of his personality only because they know he always brings them back alive.

Classic War Movies are a dying breed of

Classic War Movies are a dying breed of the arts. Steve McQueen plays a high flying, no pun intended, pilot that actually is just one of the gang. A player in a war that was romanticized more than it should have been. It was filled with characters like the one that McQueen plays. Highly recommend this movie for all of those that were raised soon after the war. McQueen at his best and Robert Wagoner is an addition that only makes this movie a must see. For the critics that give this a below average movie, I say thumbs down, because they are probably too young to understand a movie made about a war only 17 years after it's ending. That period of time still remembered vividly the veterans that served and in a bomber group, it was such a powerful praise to a very dedicated and brave group of men.

I love Steve McQueen but this movie is

I love Steve McQueen but this movie is rightfully mostly ignored in ratings… for good reason. The monologue is awful and very amateurish. The wording and phrasing is nothing like what would be used in the service. The acting is the same and not at all believable. Turned off after a few minutes into the movie.

N'allez pas chercher de subtilité dans The War Lover. Depuis le titre jusqu'à la dernière image, le film de Philip Leacock présente un duo d'aviateurs de la WWII composé du va-t'en guerre psychopathe Steve McQueen et du plus sympathique et presque anti-militariste Robert Wagner qui se battent pour les bras de Shirley Anne Field. S'il est étonnant de voir à quel point les scènes d'action en avion sont très belles pour cette époque, la romance est parfaitement cousue de fil blanc, sans aucune once de nuance et d'intelligence. Il n'en demeure pas moins que Steve McQueen est parfait dans un rare rôle de salopard, tandis que Robert Wagner lui rend plutôt bien la pareille. The War Lover est un film plutôt sympathique à défaut d'être réellement intéressant.
