Plot summary

At the demise of empire, City of London financial interests created a web of offshore secrecy jurisdictions that captured wealth from across the globe and hid it behind obscure financial structures in a web of offshore islands. Today, up to half of global offshore wealth may be hidden in British offshore jurisdictions and Britain and its offshore jurisdictions are the largest global players in the world of international finance. How did this come about, and what impact does it have on the world today? This is what the Spider's Web sets out to investigate.

It's dated, dry and a little one sided

It's dated, dry and a little one sided but most of all it's depressing to know nothing will ever change. The forces working against change are too powerful and deep. Makes me feel a bit sick thinking about it.

An excellent film about the distortions of late-stage capitalism.

It addresses the topics of tax havens, British dependent territories, the independence of the City of London, and the debt of poor countries.This is a very good anti-capitalist film (for some it will be revelatory, for more advanced viewers it will merely expand their knowledge), although at times it falls into excessive sensationalism. For example, the side plot with a policeman testing sirens during an interview seems to have been shot purely for dramatic effect. The interview could have been filmed in a neutral location, such as a restaurant.
