Plot summary

A dramatisation that follows Tony Blair's journey from political understudy waiting in the wings of the world arena to accomplished prime minister standing confidently in the spotlight of centre stage. It is a story about relationships, between two powerful men (Blair and Bill Clinton), two powerful couples, and husbands and wives.

Unintentional humor at a pleasantly appropriate outer rate

Unintentional humor at a pleasantly appropriate outer rate and requesting little further credibility without routinely disrupting the crafted flow aside, this essential political drama unveils the titular apparently complicated association in an arresting light from thought-provoking depth to the peaked performances of the main pairs' chemistries. The Special Relationship masterfully achieves what all political

The Special Relationship masterfully achieves what all political biopics should without the bells and whistles of superior, larger-scale films. Michael Sheen as Blair does superbly well and and every single role is extremely believable. McCrory is also very good, and Quaid too. Admittedly, A Special Relationship clearly stretches the truth in some ends and it is a bit difficult to see certain conversations passing the way represented in the film. Despite this, a fairly humdrum premise is turned up to 11 by good casting and attention to detail in scripting and performances. Quaid's Clinton won't be to everyone's tastes and certainly doesn't cover the real man in glory, but particularly Sheen really could do with a bit more praise in some circles. The feeling of reality rooted in the film originates from a fairly balanced view of characters and their roles in events, despite perhaps leaning towards portraying Blair more positively than anyone.
