The Royal We is a very standard Hallmark

The Royal We is a very standard Hallmark entry, and unfortunately it never rises above the formula the network has relied on for years. While the cast is perfectly serviceable and the performances are not bad, the film feels like it was greenlit simply to fill a slot rather than to tell a fresh story. The premise of a princess living undercover in the real world has charm, but it’s a concept Hallmark has recycled countless times, and this version adds nothing new to the mix. The screenplay is predictable to a fault, hitting every expected beat without surprise or depth. The romance unfolds exactly as you’d expect, and the conflict surrounding tradition, duty, and a woman being told to quiet herself feels outdated rather than thoughtfully explored. While it’s harmless background viewing, the film lacks originality, emotional pull, and ambition. It’s not terrible, but it’s forgettable, unremarkable, and another reminder that Hallmark often plays it safe instead of pushing its stories

PREPOSTEROUS ENJOYABLE ROYAL ROMP

Sit back, relax be ready for a movie that shouldn't be taken too seriously and just enjoy the fun! This is the story of Princess Bea, who has lived her life in Boston, away from her royal duties and obligations. Her older sister, Coralina elopes with a plumber, so now Bea must step in and honor the arranged marriage to help end a conflict and establish peace between two countries. Bea reluctantly agrees to the marriage. Bea asks her long time college friend and business partner, Chloe, to accompany her to her home country for the wedding. She meets her fiancée, Crown Prince Desmond and encourages him to break royal protocol, and take time to be more authentic, spontaneous and just have some fun and enjoy life.Mallory Jansen is my favorite Hallmark female actress, and she is perfectly cast as Princess Bea, and plays the role superbly! Charlie Carrick plays Desmond and does an excellent job as the Crown Prince. The two have great chemistry together, although there were several magical scenes with the couple, I just wish they incorporated a bit more actual romance between Bea and Desmond to emphasize that they were falling for one another. On a sour note I felt Chloe and the two country Kings overacted in their roles. The rest of the supporting cast was fine. Overall, the witty and humorous dialogue, the beautiful scenery, and acting of Jansen and Carrick make this a cute engaging movie that holds your interest and keeps you entertained!

Sweet modern fairytale

This was a fun trip into the Hallmark alternate universe. Some parts of that universe are just a little different (no worries walking late at night, no one strutting around with guns) but this is the part with many small countries with people speaking in posh English accents. What makes or breaks a Hallmark movie are relatable characters (even if they are royalty) and writing that shows some respect for the audience within the rules of that universe. This movie delivers on both with the added bonus of beautiful scenery, clearly being made before money was funneled elsewhere and movies were given short shrift. The leads are adorable, and you are rooting for them all the way. No fainting princesses or overbearing princes here- truly a modern fairy tale with a bright, inspiring and empowered princess.OK- watched again and added a star. I so much enjoyed a story with two nice people who are equals. Not one rich/one poor or royal/commoner or boss/employee. The actors are so perfectly matched and charming together it may make it hard for them to move on to other co-stars :-) And the supporting cast being over the top seems so appropriate for a fairy tale. So definitely recommend for Hallmark fans.
