The River and the Wall' is a documentary

'The River and the Wall' is a documentary that travels the entire border of Texas and Mexico. Five people take a journey by horse, kayak, and bike and in the process this multi-month adventure occurs. Along the way, the filmmaker and his companions share stories, mishaps and meet people who talk about the potential impact of building a wall. Tough questions are asked and several ideas are proposed and it's a good discussion that includes two Congressmen. However, it's hard to see the impact this could make. Where there's money, there's a will and where there's a will there's a way. It appears there's money for big business in putting up a barrier. Some fantastic images for a doc that just doesn't quite get there. Final Score: 6.2/10

The scenery is fantastic and the group's choice

The scenery is fantastic and the group's choice and use of different vehicles (bike, foot, horse, canoe) is really fun to watch. The wildlife is absolutely breathtaking and the drone shots overhead add good visual perspective. But the anti-wall propaganda is a little bit over the top. We learn about what a wall in this part of the world would really mean and how it would appear. But every obstacle is presented as insurmountable. And they want the 99% of us who do not live on the border to think it's impossible because we don't understand. You can build a wall with vertical slats that make it harder to climb. You can follow property lines instead of cutting farms in half. You can leave openings for wildlife to migrate through. But each of these challenges is just said to be wrong and unsolvable by the filmmakers. It just feels a little one-sided.

Wonderful documentary. I loved seeing the wildlife, the birds, the river, and the landscape. Also, it was refreshing to hear about the real human stories and dynamics along the river instead of the same old stupid Fox News foolishness. We have a lot to learn about the border region if we would open our ears and eyes.
