Plot summary

The Roth family leads a quiet life in a small village in the German Alps during the early 1930s. After the Nazis come to power, the family is divided and Martin Breitner, a family friend, is caught up in the turmoil.

A film that is more relevant now than

A film that is more relevant now than it was when it premiered in 1940. A respectable middle class German family is torn apart when Adolph Hitler is elected as Chancellor. The acting is very good, particularly by Frank Morgan (who appeared as the wizard of Oz a year earlier) as the leader of a family of middle class intellectuals in a small town in southern Germany. Seriously, watch it and you might learn something about how we got to 2026 America.

I've had the pleasure of watching this movie

I've had the pleasure of watching this movie 6 or 7 times. I rarely watch a movie more than twice. This will always be one of my all time favorites

A very good classic movie; hard to go

A very good classic movie; hard to go wrong with Jimmy Stewart. So many relevant themes that ring true during this current administration. So a bit unnerving to watch and see how individuals are brainwashed.
