Plot summary

Compared to girls, research shows that boys in the United States are more likely to be diagnosed with a behaviour disorder, prescribed stimulant medications, fail out of school, binge drink, commit a violent crime, and/or take their own lives. "The Mask You Live In" includes men of various ages about their experiences, offering a wide perspective of how men live in American society. A lot of the information and topics mentioned in the documentary is general knowledge, though it still does a good job raising concerns about how we, as a society, could be doing better for men. I especially found the information regarding the statistics of pornography and games interesting.

"The mask you live in", shows a deep understanding and perspective to how boys are taught to define themselves in our society. My favorite part of this film was showing the similar sides from all the men whether they are 10 years old or in their 30s, they all offer unique perspectives. The documentary doesn't have a direct cause, just shows all the added up ways our world can view masculinity in a toxic way.

This film gave me such powerful insight into

This film gave me such powerful insight into the experience of growing up as a young boy and a man. The film does an amazing job of focusing on the pressures of society and toxic culture that our world has made for young men. It truly is such an important topic and I am glad there is media talking about men's mental health and the expectations they face.
