Loved this movie. It captures the desperation of

Loved this movie. It captures the desperation of pre-war Europe, that most cannot imagine. Many criticize it for inplausibilty, but this is intentional. It is more like a nightmare with characters moving through dark scenes they have no control over. Ricci, a Jewish girl, is the common thread. Early in the movie poverty and racism separate her from her father in a heart-tugging scene. Later the pograms in Russia separate her from her remaining family. Ricci moves through a landscape that is sad and dangerous with a secret that she is Jewish. This creates tension but also hope for a happy outcome. In Paris Ricci rooms with Blanchett, who is over the top flirtatious but with an agenda of finding a man to rescue her from her dark prospects. All performances are stellar, the music is beautiful, and the filmography captivating. I think those looking for realism should watch a documentary, but if you want a movie that will make you feel, The Man Who Cried fills that bill.
