Plot summary

Neal Cassady is living the beat life during the 1940s, working at The Tire Yard and philandering around town. However, he has visions of a happy life with kids and a white picket fence. When his girlfried, Joan, tries to kill herself he gets scared and runs away. But when Joan reappears will he take the chance at that happiness, or will he turn his back on it?

Story about a time in Jack Kerouac's pal

Story about a time in Jack Kerouac's pal Neal Cassady's life, which is based on a letter. I think the premise of this film might be hard to crasp, if you jump right into it without any prior knowledge about the beat-generation. I think it does an excellent job communicating the protagonists emotions - the anguish, hope, restlessness. The whole cast is great, the leading man Thomas Jane is an excellent fit, and both Claire Forlani & Gretchen Mol are as charming as they're beautiful. We get to see a pretty different Keanu Reeves here too, I was delighted with this against type-cast character, playing whom he does a solid job.

This film was not horrible, but not great

This film was not horrible, but not great. The acting was good. Great acting job by Keanu Reeves who played against type as a loser, drunk, creep and very unlikeable character. But it's good to see Keanu do something different.

Didn't know that Neal was a real life

Didn't know that Neal was a real life character til the film ended. Film started fine, nice nostalgic setting and music.. but his 20-year old indecision annoyed me, especially the Christmas night when he left Joan hanging because he couldn't say No to Harry and beer. Tragic and unnecessary; to put a friend above one's lover.
