Plot summary

Small town lawyer, Harmon Cobb, defends a Nazi prisoner of war against murder charges. Set during World War II, Cobb has to contend with the difficulties of defending the devil when the town's only doctor (Barnard Hughes) dies while at "Camp Bremen" in the fictitious town of Bremen, Colorado.

A very unexpected surprise! WW2 Germans in an

A very unexpected surprise! WW2 Germans in an American POW camp. Small town lawyer played by Walter Matthau is ordered to defend the prisoner who allegedly killed a local MD who worked at the camp infirmary Studded w/ stars from the average boomer’s era. Good material and insights.

This movie was an unexpected surprise. It was a "small" movie, but intense. I was sitting on the edge of my chair. Walter Matthau is a jewel. Not only does he add a bit of comic relief, he brought warmth and genuine compassion to the role. His pain upon learning of his son's passing was heartwrenching. Perry Mason would have been proud of his courtroom demeanor. The movie was shot in Colorado Springs, Colorado and gave us glimpses of the Garden of the Gods as well as utilizing their beautiful Courthouse. The supporting actors were cast perfectly. To me, this is one of Walter Matthau's best performances.
