Plot summary

In the not too distant future, where by far the most precious commodity in the galaxy is water. The last surviving water planet was somehow removed to the unreachable centre of the galaxy at the end of the galactic trade wars. The galaxy is ruled by an evil emperor presiding over a trade oligarchy that controls all mining and sale of ice from asteroids and comets.

Hilarious. Before space balls and after star wars, I saw this in a movie theater, I was 9 years old. It still holds up now and I'm 50.

Ice Pirates never intended to be a filmmaking

Ice Pirates never intended to be a filmmaking masterpiece. What it is, however, is a fun homage to both the sci-fi traditions of the 50s and 60s, as well as a callback to any number of its pirate movie ancestors. Shot on a shoestring, it stretched its budget to its limits and punched above its weight. Don't take it any more seriously than it takes itself and you'll find that it's well worth the time.
