Plot summary

To die-hard fans of NBA franchise, the Vancouver Grizzlies, like filmmaker Kat Jayme, the team’s abrupt move to Memphis in 2001 is much more than a sore spot, it’s an unsolved mystery and possibly a criminal conspiracy. What begins as a superfan’s investigation into her hometown team’s disappearance, becomes a love letter to the worst professional sports franchise in history, and an exploration of the deep roots of fandom.

Comes full circle, I literally cried when the producer meets the Memphis father and son fans, and sees how passionate they are for the Grizzlies. The producer sums it up well as she states that she wouldn't want to take the team away from them.

Watching The Grizzlie Truth felt like being pulled back into the 90s, when the Vancouver Grizzlies were more than just a struggling NBA franchise—they were part of the city’s heartbeat. Kath does an incredible job of weaving her own fandom into the story, so as a viewer you’re not just learning what happened, you’re feeling it. The mix of humor, nostalgia, and real detective work makes it engaging from start to finish, and by the end you can’t help but feel the same bittersweet love for a team that left far too soon. It’s less about stats and more about heart, which makes it a documentary that lingers long after the credits roll.
