I actually own this movie and periodically rewatch it. Yes, it is a retelling (albeit romanticized) of the Onassis Kennedy marriage. Even though the script is less sordid than the reality, there is something compelling about developing a "love" relationship between two completely disparate people thrown together by economic necessity. [In this, the script covers Onassis needs more than Jackie’s.] The performances are fabulous — Quinn, Bisset, and a highly underrated Edward Albert as the son. If you’re looking for a calm, thoughtful period piece set in great scenery, i recommend it wholeheartedly.
