Plot summary

Gilbert Wooley is a second-rate magician who is sent to entertain the troops in the pacific. During his time in Japan he becomes attached to a little orphan boy.

A satisfactory film with compassion. The Geisha Boy

A satisfactory film with compassion. The Geisha Boy tells the story of a mediocre magician (Jerry Lewis) who goes to Japan to entertain some soldiers but becomes attached to an orphan boy. The film honestly has the same amount of good and bad qualities. Just to get it out of the way, let's start with the bad. Wasn't a fan of the goofy, idiotic, confusing, and head scratching writing by Frank Tashlin and Rudy Makoul as it was all over the place. The editing by Alma Macrorie was also a head scratcher. But there were also some good qualities. The acting performances from Jerry Lewis, Marie McDonald, Suzanne Pleshette, Nobu McCarthy, and Robert Hirano were quite magnificent as each one portrayed their characters in an impressive and magnificent manner. The film was also very hilarious. There were plenty of gags that made me laugh but what really stole the show was Harry the Hare as all of his scene were quite amusing. The film can be considered a hit or miss but I consider it a hit because Frank Tashlin's The Geisha Boy is a heart warming, sweet, and funny film for the whole family as it teaches audiences about compassion and kindness.

Jerry Lewis films are truly in a world

Jerry Lewis films are truly in a world of their on, one of few comedians like Jim Carey who can go to any lengths yet still have charm. Many of the major Lewis films where directed by Frank Tashlin who launched his career from Looney Tunes Cartoons. He said he directed the cartoons like live action films but his live action movies like cartoons. The story of a struggling musician trying to make it big in Japan but ends up impressing a lonely Japanese boy.
