Plot summary

Toni Le Brun, a beautiful Viennese singer, becomes the ward of the wardrobe mistress of a Monte Carlo nightclub. Her benefactor, however, is actually a baroness incognito. Toni falls in love with the handsome Richard, but as they prepare to marry, she comes to believe he is only after the wealth accompanying her new noble status. But truth, like true love, will not be kept secret long.

There are some great shots here, as well as a scene in which a character unwittingly plays the prepared piano before John Cage made it famous.

Pretty good. Breezy and amusing - moreso than

Pretty good. Breezy and amusing - moreso than his later films, Milestone really knew how to hold the whole picture together. It's a shame that he lost that knack. This is pretty simple fare, but told well, I think, and reasonably well acted. Milestone's direction is fairly straightforward and workmanlike, but for this type of film that's all you really need. A pleasant enough viewing.
