The humor is terrible and a major problem

The humor is terrible and a major problem. It's like old school screwball type stuff with a weird dark comedy plot to get the wifes money but the humor doesn't have any good setups and it comes off as flat and poorly done. I didn't laugh once the entire time and it just gets so random. It makes the pacing terrible despite not being convuluted and sort of easy going to watch at times. Everything else is subpar. The direction is sometimes decent like the opening but than others it just disappears and feels aimless at times. It feels like once they move in stuff just happens until they put her in the trunk at the end. It would be a lot better if this was funny actually but it makes it aimless and humorless. Worst of both worlds. Beatty & Jack aren't given that good of stuff to work with so I can't really be too hard here but they just aren't that good together. It feels like also this is more concerned about gags than setting up any serious character relationship between the three of them. The wife especially feels more like a punchline for the jokes than anything serious or even passable as a character despite being arguably the main focus of the film. Most of the effort goes to gags more than actual characters. This has lots of production value and does a great job nailing the 20's look but nothing else. I can't say this si convuluted or diffcult to watch. Heck I can't even say I was bored it's just meandering and unfunny. Skip This.

Another good reason to form your own opinion

Another good reason to form your own opinion. This is a very funny movie with a snake and a chicken and this doesn’t include Nicholson or Beatty. Channing is a good looking chick as well. There is a little sag in the middle but overall very entertaining. Some very funny exchanges. Channing: “Excuse me. Have we met?” “ This is your husband dear”. The whole exchange about period sanitary pads being mouse beds. And a piece of wisdom: A mean man and a man of means are often the same.
