A woman is tormented by her own pregnancy

A woman is tormented by her own pregnancy as she is terrified by a bloodthirsty fetus with killer instincts. Convinced she is being affected by the same curse that took her mother's life, the woman uncovers a dark family secret about the monstrous unborn child. "The Fetus" tackles generational trauma and the fears of parenthood through the lens of a troubled family exorcising their inner demons. The body horror imagery is a physical manifestation of the family’s worst nightmares. An unconventional story with plenty of gory moments, but it fails to engage the audience due to a lack of authenticity.

Couldn't get into this one. Lauren and Bill

Couldn't get into this one. Lauren and Bill were great in their roles, but the story and silliness was not my thing. I can't label it as a horror comedy, or demon horror, because it seems to want to be serious while at the same time adding a bad, C grade 80s creature feature vibe.

The lead performance by Lauren LaVera is strong

The lead performance by Lauren LaVera is strong: she carries much of the tension, discomfort and dread with believable physicality and emotional weight. Veteran horror icon Bill Moseley plays a father that will go to extreme lengths to protect his daughter. The creature-design and practical effects are grotesque, and it embraces the absurdity of a life form feeding off of you. At its core, the film is about anxieties around pregnancy, body autonomy, and transformation in a campy demonic way. The script sometimes leans on familiar horror tropes, and the character motivations or world-building can feel a bit thin or under-explored. With a low budget indie horror movie, we have to give grace where CGI maybe doesn't live up to your standards of Hollywood movies today. Overall, The Fetus succeeds as a bold indie horror piece that isn’t afraid to indulge its premise. For fans of body-horror and monster movies, it’s a treat. This indie horror film is memorable and worth your time.
