This was a shocking horror movie when it came out, but to me it represents the strength of faith, that good will prevail over evil at the very end, even with enormous sacrifices. It has become a lesson in keeping the faith these days. Thank you for posting.
The Director's Cut is not very good. Is there any way to get the Theatrical Cut in 4K? I've seen it and they used CGI to get rid of the wires. Otherwise, it looks a LOT better than the blu-ray.
This is a masterpiece, at least as long as the suspense part holds. The demon phase is sometimes just a tad to long harped upon, especially in the excorcist ritual I was more humoured than horrored. Which was a necessary relief after all the frightening scenes ahead, so you could consider this also good :)
There is a lot of truth in this film; except for the "head rotating" scene, the dialogue, paranormal effects, and preliminary details are very much in line with the experiences of Catholic exorcists who confront the demonic. While "exorcism" has been done to death by Hollywood in recent years, the film absolutely scared 1973 audiences who were unfamiliar with the idea of exorcism and its vile details. Even today, it is a deeply unsettling film; it does not glorify or romanticize evil, like modern Hollywood does. 8/10 for authenticity and sober treatment of the subject.
