Plot summary

Jack McKee is a doctor with it all: he's successful, he's rich, and he has no problems.... until he is diagnosed with throat cancer. Now that he has seen medicine, hospitals, and doctors from a patient's perspective, he realises that there is more to being a doctor than surgery and prescriptions.

Somewhat predictable, yet the acting and dialogue carried

Somewhat predictable, yet the acting and dialogue carried the day... And it is a touching story. I guess I might be biased, as a physician who also had a head/neck cancer and almost bought the farm... So it had a special meaning to me, and much of the patient experience certainly rang true. Having said that, I'm an old country doc, and I think my patients liked me before I got cancer. lol!

A script that could easily go astray made believable by the wonderful performance of William Hurt , very credible in the role of this self centered CVT surgeon who becomes more humane after confrontation with serious disease The movie aged well and is still very enjoyable 30 years after
