Not quite. The true Baphomet, the androgyine glyph of arcane perfection (as it was known to adepts of the Western esoteric tradition), was first brought to the West by the Knights Templar after their contact with an ancient Gnostic sect. The glyph and image of Baphomet as the androgyne of Mendes was since used by various orders and adepts throughout the late Middle Ages, through the Rosicrucian enlightenment and subsequent centuries to the present day, wherein it was most recently bastardized by the LaVeyan 'Church of Satan' in the mid 20th century as an emblem for hollow atheistic Satanism, as opposed to the century's old theistic Satanist cults who adopted it from the Rosicricuans, the Sigil of Baphomet used by the CoS first revealed by the founder of the Kabalistic Order of the Rose-Cross the man known as Stanislas de Guaita in the 19th century.
