Death and Return of Superman, directed by Max

Death and Return of Superman, directed by Max Landis, feels less like a formal documentary and more like a passionate, late-night conversation with a friend who loves comics so much they can’t stop talking. Fast, funny, and chaotic, it plays like a feature-length rush of ideas, bursting with genuine affection for Superman as both a character and a cultural symbol. The film doubles as an entertaining snapshot of indie film ambition, helped by a surprisingly stacked lineup that includes Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, and Simon Pegg, whose appearances add a surreal, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it charm. Cameos by YouTubers Teri Fruichantie and Amber Bollinger from Hollywood Is Hard are a pleasant surprise, bringing internet-era authenticity that feels organic rather than gimmicky. Messy, energetic, and sincere, it’s a lively time capsule of fandom and creative obsession.

I actually found Death and Return of Superman

I actually found Death and Return of Superman through the Hollywood Is Hard YouTube channel, and it felt like one long, unhinged but lovable rant from someone who really cares about comics. Directed by Max Landis, it’s less a traditional doc and more chaotic brain dump energy—fast, funny, messy, and full of genuine Superman love. The surprise appearances from Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, and Simon Pegg give it this surreal "wait, what?" vibe, and the cameos by YouTubers Teri Fruichantie and Amber Bollinger feel like a fun Easter egg rather than a flex. It’s chaotic, very online, and oddly sincere—a total time capsule of fandom and creative obsession.
