@oldmovieguy72: "too close"? Humans were woefully ignorant about the hazards of nuclear radiation at the time. To some extent, the general public is still in the dark (either willfully or intent). Over three & a half decades of atmospheric nuclear testing world-wide (mostly in the northern hemisphere), with prevailing winds west to east, exposures & contamination are far above what the masses are generally aware. It has become part of the world's environment—but you'll never hear that brought up by "climate catastrophists". Imagine being close enough to watch the mushroom clouds form… like Las Vegas residents did at the time from roof-tops and nearby mountains.
