In early 20th century California, a young woman takes a job as a nanny to a young girl whose mother has recently died. On her way to the rural, secluded home, she meets a neighbor who warns her of the family's reputation. "Stay on the path until you come to an old cemetery"
A film that has some eerie moments but on the whole is dull. The acting is ineffective though Laurel Barnett can do a good scream. The titular sinister child just comes across as slightly peevish. Continuity between night and day is a muddle and the film score is enthusiastically excessive to the point of hilarity. It ends with a 'Night of the Living Dead' vibe that is too late to liven proceedings. Ostensibly set in the 1930's but it makes nothing of that. It could just have had a contemporary setting. The only thing that spooked me was the conversation about oleanders when the father and daughter began to laugh. That was creepy. And the zombie make-up wasn't too bad.
