Plot summary

Bumbling detective Stan Laurel disguises himself as a famous matador in order to hide from the vengeful Richard K. Muldoon, who spent time in prison on Stan's bogus testimony.

A real laurel and hardy movie from that

A real laurel and hardy movie from that period when they were used as B movie attractions, mostly out of character. No depressing subplot helping the young lovers fight the bad guys, just traditional stuff involving Stan and his look alike bullfighter , in Mexico. Typically , opportunity after opportunity for doing it right , fly out the window , but the whole deal hangs together pretty good.

Perhaps one of the least satisfying Laurel and

Perhaps one of the least satisfying Laurel and Hardy ventures; the impact of their transition to Fox Studios is evident in the relaxed pace of the narrative, despite Laurel writing and directing some scenes. The film isn't a complete write-off, with some laugh-out-loud moments, but their limited improvisation and an annoying Diosa Costello makes this one, their last released in the United States, difficult to highly recommend.

Laurel and Hardy's last American film ("The Bullfighters

Laurel and Hardy's last American film ("The Bullfighters" 1945) is the last of a dismal lot of films that the boys did for Fox, where their familiar characters all but vanished under the Fox assembly line process of interchangable, generic scripts which could have been played by anybody. However, in this final film in the contract, Stan was finally given more input and reportedly directed a few scenes. The result is the best of the lot, which is still a far cry from their classic work for Hal Roach. Stan was fond of "freak endings" and this film has the freakiest L&H ending of all time, suggesting Stan's influence. Age was also catching up with the boys, as Stan was 55 and Ollie 53.
