I could not have imagined how it would

I could not have imagined how it would have been possible to make a documentary about the Bronx that was not as vibrant, alive, and diverse as the Bronx is and always has been. However, it was a torturous embarrassment. Clearly a labor of love paid for by the producer, or something like that---this was an egotistical self-aggrandizing severely limited, hidebound, backward tonedeaf portrait of the Bronx. Like someone's wealthy and unbelievably parochial grandpa came up with the premise and rolled out the story according to their own tiny little self-delighted point of view. It's punctuated by excruciating moments like extraordinarily white old Baby Boomers like Robert Klein sitting on a park bench and rapping. Everyone in this film is so immensely pleased with themselves, first, and the Bronx--as a narcissistic projection of themselves--second. Couldn't make it through more than 1/2. AnaAppalling and a monstrous waste of time squandered on a fabulous subject. A few anecdotes and some of the archival footage compelling, hence 2 stars.

Lacklustre

I was looking forward to a "documentary" on the Bronx...what I got was a fluffy walk down memory lane. Other than learning that the Bronx is North of Manhattan I didn't learn a single thing about what makes it a unique or special place. All the friendship based themes could be applied to many places. Seemed to morph into a high school grad class story. Good for background TV while dusting the furniture.
