Plot summary

Mild-mannered dirt-poor hill-dweller Jed Clampett strikes it rich when oil is discovered on his property. At cousin Pearl's insistence, he moves his family to Beverly Hills to better enjoy his newfound wealth.

The Beverly Hillbillies has a fun premise, but

The Beverly Hillbillies has a fun premise, but it never does enough with it. Most of the comedy relies on repetitive misunderstandings, exaggerated stereotypes, and broad slapstick that quickly wears out its welcome. There are a few laughs when the movie leans into the culture clash between the Clampetts and Beverly Hills, but they're too few and far between. Jim Varney is an earnest and lovable Jed Clampett, and Cloris Leachman and Lily Tomlin throw themselves into the material with plenty of energy. Unfortunately, the screenplay gives most of the characters little beyond a single joke or personality trait, making them difficult to become invested in. The movie also leans too heavily on nostalgia, largely recreating the television series instead of finding a fresh angle for a new audience. While younger viewers may find some harmless fun here, the predictable humor and thin writing make it a fairly forgettable adaptation.

If your gonna make a movie based on

If your gonna make a movie based on a popular TV show then this is how you do it. I absolutely enjoyed this take on the Beverly hillbillies. Jim Varney,Rob Schneider and the rest of the cast were fantastic. My favorite scene is when Jethro is rebuilding his vehicle into a monster truck. Tim Treakle

It's too bad they don't give casting directors

It's too bad they don't give casting directors awards. The person that cast this movie definitely deserves one. Every actor in this movie is perfectly cast. This is one of the few times that the film mirrors the TV show. Just wish they made more family-friendly films like this one. Definitely one of Jim varney's best movies.
