Plot summary

During the war in Afghanistan a Soviet tank crew commanded by a tyrannical officer find themselves lost and in a struggle against a band of Mujahadeen guerrillas in the mountains.

This was a great movie. I could see The same scenario happening to American soldiers with a crazy tank commander.

Philosophical in tone, but lacking a coherent philosophy

Philosophical in tone, but lacking a coherent philosophy, the end result is a totally plot driven art film. It's about the characters, it's about Afghanistan, it's about Russia, but it's not really about any of those things. An adaptation of the play Nanawatai, it finds itself in a stylistic no-man's land between stage-play and film.
