It was too squeaky clean, from the clothes

It was too squeaky clean, from the clothes and sets to the music and even the acting. Everything felt sanitized, almost like a Hallmark special. The pacing was plodding too, as if the movie were mechanically working through a math problem rather than telling a story with any real life in it. Still, it had some great actors and good production value.

When basing a movie on a true story

When basing a movie on a true story, it isn’t a bad idea to keep closer to the facts. Why did the script focus on Eunice when in reality, it was Garret’s second wife, Linda Marie Guillemette, who was married to him during the period of time focused on the film? There are a few other meaningful details that edited for "dramatic effect," but the true story is more compelling. Hat makes this a better than average movie is Mackie and Jackson, who’s performances rise above these limitations.
