Crying shame The Alphabet Killer didn't appeal to

Crying shame The Alphabet Killer didn't appeal to me because it does have actors I like just fine who do their parts well. Too bad the average-looking cinematography, questionable ending and uneven tone that can't entirely decide if it wants to be an Unsolved Mysteries-esque thriller or a horror film with ambiguous supernatural elements badly affect any willingness on my part to recommend this film to anyone seeking a David Fincher-adjacent fix. Kinda boring & forgettable TBH, save for the eyebrow-raising ending.

The film had a solid cast with decent

The film had a solid cast with decent performances and the plot could have been interesting but the writers and director desperately wanted to make a movie about ghosts but actually about mental illness but manifesting as ghosts, but, wait, what if it's actually ghosts . . . Parts of the story are quite good. Other parts come across as having been written for a middle school creative writing assignment. It's worth a watch as the acting alone carries the film, but it's really uneven storytelling.

The Alphabet Killer promises intrigue but delivers confusion

The Alphabet Killer promises intrigue but delivers confusion. Detective Megan Paige, known for her solid record, leads the case of a murdered pre-teen, but her obsession derails the story. The film struggles with identity—horror, thriller, crime procedural? It’s all and none. Megan’s visions feel like cheap scares, and the investigation lacks logic, relying on convenient instincts. Based on true events, Megan’s arc adds an odd, unnecessary layer, like chocolate on steak. Worse, the filmmakers "solve" the case, a disrespectful move that leads to a weak ending. Compared to Zodiac (released a year earlier), this feels amateurish. Unless you’re a film junkie watching for sport, skip it—subpar at best.
