The Adventurer" has a misleading title ("The Convict

"The Adventurer" has a misleading title ("The Convict" would be better), but it's a fun, entertaining short. Chaplin escapes from prison and falls into high society after rescuing some upper-crust folks who fall off a beach pier. He spends the rest of the film stealing drinks, kicking rivals and dodging suspicion. Did Chaplin invent the familiar gag where someone temporarily "hides" by putting a lampshade over his head and standing rigid?

The Adventurer is one of Charlie's most solid

The Adventurer is one of Charlie's most solid shorts. A large number of his Mutual shorts feel uneven but The Adventurer is hilarious throughout. It's not really one of Charlie's best or most funny, but it's a pretty damn good time. There are some moments that are at a magnitude only Charlie could achieve. He does this one trick with glasses that is dumbfounding. I've seen it fifty times and still can't figure out how he did it! Charlie never ceases to amaze me. Every film that I see him in, I learn something new about him that only increases my respect for him, which surprises me, because every time it happens I feel like it's impossible for it to happen again. Charlie Chaplin was a treasure.

Another funny, short duel between Chaplin and Campbell

Another funny, short duel between Chaplin and Campbell. Though I felt disappointed with Charlie here, he seemed a little lazy.
