Plot summary

Andy Stitzer has a pleasant life with a nice apartment and a job stamping invoices at an electronics store. But at age 40, there's one thing Andy hasn't done, and it's really bothering his sex-obsessed male co-workers: Andy is still a virgin. Determined to help Andy get laid, the guys make it their mission to de-virginize him. But it all seems hopeless until Andy meets small business owner Trish, a single mom.

The 40 Year Old Virgin is easily one

The 40 Year Old Virgin is easily one of the funniest comedies of the 2000s, built on a mix of sharp writing, awkward situations, and genuinely heartfelt moments. It set a tone that influenced a whole wave of comedy films that followed. What makes it especially notable is that it was the first feature film directed by Judd Apatow, and you can already see his style taking shape here. The balance between outrageous humor and grounded character work feels surprisingly confident for a debut. The comedy works because it never feels forced—most of the humor comes naturally from the characters and their interactions. The ensemble cast also brings a lot of energy, making even smaller scenes memorable and funny. Overall, it holds up as a standout comedy of its era with strong rewatch value and consistent laughs. I’d rate it an 8/10.

The friends trying to "help" him are all

The friends trying to "help" him are all quietly awful — one cheats, one hates his ex, one treats women as objects. The main character just believes in love and gets mocked for it. The film reflects the androcentricity of modern society without fully calling it out. Too long, but fine for a one-time watch. Full review on my website darjasuri.
