Plot summary

After relocating his family - and his prized restored Sherman tank - to a small Georgia town, Sargeant Major Zack Carey butts heads with the local sheriff. Zack doesn't agree with the ways of the local police, and when the sheriff goes after Zack's son, it's time for Zack to roll out the Sherman tank and wage a little war of his own.

What a strange movie. Imagine if someone mixed

What a strange movie. Imagine if someone mixed Death Wish & Smokey & The Bandit together and replaced the Pontiac with a WWII tank you'd get this. It's kind of I guess what you'd expect. James Gardner is great in this and the most likeable person. The Sheriff is menacing and good also And there is a decent line of dialouge every now and than too. Everything and everyone else though is just ok. Some of the acting is hammy. The direction is pretty basic. I didn't even notice they were in the Deep South until halfway. This has a weird tone problem where it wants to be very gritty and serious but than whacky and zany like a Smokey & the bandit style humor. Kind of reminds me of Convoy a bit also in a sense of the rouge folk hero he becomes. But it's also and I think the biggest underlying problem such a farfetched idea. Like how does the U.S. Government never step in when a tank is on the loose. They use a WWII bazooka and not a modern Stinger or something?

I love this movie - watched it as

I love this movie - watched it as a kid and I will on some rare occassions pop it back in if I am feeling nastaglic and I am glad I do everytime! Its a pure joy, sotuational comedic relief but has a lot of heart.
