Plot summary

When scam artist Harry Reynolds gets out of jail, he makes his way to the depressed coastal village of Beachport, where according to local myth, an old Portuguese treasure ship lies buried in the sand. Harry is an old pro at manipulating this situation to his best advantage, but never anticipates how deeply he will be affected by the relationship he develops with a young boy and his mother. A delightful tale of greed, gullibility and grandiose schemes, "Sweet Talker" is a romantic comedy for everyone in the family.

It’s actually not a bad film. The story

It’s actually not a bad film. The story is good, Brown has a screen presence, the kid’s not too annoying either! And Allen does a good job too. What’s more the town of Beachport actually exists and is such a great place too. Population of 500 & is low key outside of tourist season which for a couple of weeks a year sees the place inundated but still bearable.

Sweet Talker delivers on its promise of sweetness!

Harry (Bryan Brown)is just getting out of prison and was savvy enough to steal another inmate's plan for making money. The scheme involves going to a smaller town on the ocean and talking up big plans to convert the area to an amusement park. People of the community then would invest their own money to benefit the economy and themselves. The con man says sayonara and makes off with the dough. Harry finds what he feels is the perfect village to dupe. However, the boarding house he takes residence in has an attractive female owner (Karen Allen) with a son but no husband. Can Harry conduct his business without any complications? This darling movie is such a joy. The relationship between Harry and the young son of the boarding house owner is nicely drawn. There are also funny locals, beautiful scenery, a nice romance, and good messages to experience. Sweet talk someone special into watching this film with you. You will laugh, tear-up, and sigh.
