Plot summary

Sue is back on the dating scene. She meets a mysterious biker called Ron at her brother's funeral and sparks fly. But when Ron introduces her to her social media-influence son, Anthony, Sue finds herself in an increasingly surreal battle of wills with this ambitious teenager who, despite showing no signs of talent, is convinced his dance troupe 'Electric Destiny' is tipped for stardom. Will she find the purpose and imagination to bring this little unconventional family together for a chance of happiness?

Some decent acting in this and it starts quite well but neither the intended comedy or pathos reaches maturity

This reminds me of early Mike Leigh before

This reminds me of early Mike Leigh before he got really good. It’s very awkward with a few clues about the characters but not enough to really understand them. It’s not funny. The music was very enjoyable.

Odd moments

The director Mike Leigh makes wonderful, poignant, sometimes hopeful, sometimes bleak, stories of everyday weirdos trying to get along with their lives. You might think it a simple thing to do, but it isn't, and I've seen a number of failed attempts to clone his style. This one comes from his own son, Leo. There some similarities to his father's work, most notably 'Life is Sweet' (and not just in the name), but the characters are neither as human nor as funny, and the film seems to advertise what it is trying to do rather too obviously. In particular, Harry Trevaldwyn's wannbe influencer is a soft target, painted without any obvious affection. To be fair, this is Leo's first film as writer/director; but sadly it feels like it.
