Plot summary

Stephanie collapses in a pool of blood while on a school skiing trip. A doctor discovers that the blood is the after-effects of giving birth. Soon afterward, the body of a newborn baby is found in a toilet, its mouth blocked with toilet paper. Despite Stephanie's insistence that her child was stillborn and that she had no idea that she was pregnant, she is arrested for the murder of the child.

A civilization is known by how well it

A civilization is known by how well it treats its children and America treats it's the worse, as is shown by this deplorable look into teenage pregnancy in the USA. The depth of anguish and lives ruined permanently is well acted causing one to weep and then scream at the screen. Unobtrusively photographed, allowing the actors to penetrate your mindset. Nibbles: Glenfiddich (whole bottle).

Wonderful choice of cast. Typical indie with the story of teen pregnancy and the struggles with self and family. Certain disturbing scenes that made me uncomfortable to watch.

A complete success handling a very difficult subject

A complete success handling a very difficult subject. We are of course in 21st century USA where situations that would be expected two, three centuries ago happen with regular frequency. An adolescent girl raised in conservative religious household is essentially raped by a slightly older man and ends up pregnant. She tries to ignore her condition until she finally delivers the baby at a restaurant restroom. The baby dies soon afterwards and she is being prosecuted for its death. The excellent Tilda Swinton is the forensic psychologist who is called to assess the girl for the prosecution. She is conflicted, because she is in advanced gestation after having had a few months earlier a traumatizing miscarriage. Those events could construct an insufferable melodrama or like here presented with sensitivity. Amber Tambyn is the young girl and she also interprets her part realistically. In the end the two women will come to an understanding that acknowledges the tragedy that has happened. Not only the script is excellent but framing, editing and cinematography are very impressive.
